Most of the people choose to go in 4WDs which run between Mopti and Timbuktu twice a week. The fare is from $20 to $26 and it takes 12-24 hours. It's an exhausting journey through the desert, lots of breakdowns. There is this option to group together with others travellers and hire a 4WD and a driver, it would cost $220 (all in all).
